In the early 1980s, while still in my thirties, I was not yet politically awake. That was a slow awakening and began with an obsession for rescuing dogs which led to the realization that I was surrounded by a world trying to get needs met that had nothing to do with me. That is an awareness that usually comes with marriage and children. I was single.Â
At this time, despite this lack of Interest in the larger Matrix, I had a political dream. A dark dream of the future.
I was in the future standing in front of a large console and a huge screen hovering in the air. I was directed to study the history of the earth from the current point in time to the point I was at in the future. I reached out, began turning dials and a map of the world appeared on the screen. It showed me that the world was no longer divided into countries but rather three large corporate superpowers. I can't remember specifics but basically North and South America had become one, Russia and Asia another, Europe and Africa another.
It was also revealed that everybody had a place to live, food and clothes. There was no homelessness. The only catch was you weren't allowed to leave the sector you were assigned to and couldn't educate yourself beyond the Information you needed to do the job you were assigned to. Suddenly I saw a group of my friends running and being chased by police. I asked someone what was going on and they said they had been caught trying to educate themselves beyond their assigned jobs.Â
I woke up wondering whose idea of the future this was.
Imagine the future a hundred years from now. What would you like it to look like? Rest assured there are people who have a very clear idea of what that future should look like and are working diligently towards it.
Lawrence describes an awakening she had in her early 30s in the form of a dream--a dark dream. She urges us to get clear on the kind of a world we want to live in--and to work together on making that vision manifest. She warns us there are people working on a vision we may not want..
